Calvert CEO Barbara Krumsiek Receives Annual FWA Private Sector Award
Citation honors women leaders for their career achievements, leadership and professionalism
Barbara J. Krumsiek, Chair, President and CEO of Calvert Investments, was one of three honorees yesterday at the Financial Women’s Association (FWA) of New York 2013 Annual Dinner and 29th Women of the Year Awards. The awards recognize distinguished women leaders in the private and public sectors for their achievements, leadership and professionalism. Ms. Krumsiek is this year’s honoree in the private sector category.
“I am delighted to be recognized by the FWA, an organization that has done so much to advance the cause of women in business and the financial services industry,” Ms. Krumsiek said. “We are fortunate that, today, there are such amazingly talented women in business. Women are contributing more than ever in the workplace, and I look forward to seeing our impact continue to grow.”
In remarks to the audience of more than 700 dignitaries, business executives and representatives from professional firms and non-profits, Ms. Krumsiek urged women to see their careers as negotiating an obstacle course. “Women intuitively understand that compassion and competition can coexist. You can succeed without knocking others off. And, as women, we can help one another get over, under and around obstacles.”
One of the key ESG investment criteria that Calvert Investments looks for, according to Ms. Krumsiek, is gender equality in senior leadership and the board room. Calvert works to advance this issue within pubic companies, she told the audience, through proprietary research and direct engagement with companies. This gap exists despite research showing the positive influence of having women in key positions in business, she remarked.
