As a company, Calvert is committed to the core values of transparency, corporate responsibility, and effecting positive change—both inside the firm and out.
As a fiduciary, we take our responsibility seriously and have an established record of exercising proxy voting rights on the issues that matter to our shareholders. We were among only a handful of financial firms to first publish a formal Corporate Sustainability Report that highlights our own practices. In addition, we seek to influence corporate and business practices through initiatives like the Calvert Women's Principles®. We partner with various groups in our advocacy work—including policymakers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other SRI firms—to advance causes such as an end to the genocide in Sudan or policies addressing global climate change.
Calvert is a founding participant of the United Nations Global Compact and is fully committed to its ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. In April 2006, Calvert helped create the Principles for Responsible Investment, a joint program with the UN Global Compact. This voluntary initiative encourages institutional investors to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues into their investment process. In addition to helping design the Principles, Calvert was one of the few U.S. asset manager signatories to these Principles.
Headquartered in the Greater Washington, D.C. area, Calvert has repeatedly been named a “Best Place to Work” by Washingtonian magazine. Additional Calvert Awards and Achievements have included Lipper awards for our fixed-income funds, top kasina, LLC Web site awards, recognition from the Web Marketing Association and Mutual Fund Education Alliance, and Excellence in Recycling, to name a few.
