Calvert Investments' CEO Barbara Krumsiek Awarded 2012 Botwinick Prize in Business Ethics

The award recognizes Calvert's historic leadership in sustainable investing.

November 27, 2012/// BETHESDA, MD///Barbara Krumsiek, Chair, President and CEO of Calvert Investments, was awarded the 2012 Botwinick Prize in Business Ethics by the Sanford C. Bernstein Center for Leadership and Ethics at the Columbia Business School.

Barbara Krumsiek, CEO, Calvert InvestmentsEach year, the Botwinick Prize in Business Ethics recognizes an outstanding leader who exhibits the highest standard of ethical conduct in business or the professions. Past winners have included: Mikael Ohlsson, President and CEO of the IKEA Group; Peter Blom, CEO of Triodos Bank; Craig Barrett, retired CEO and Chairman of the Board of Intel Corporation; Jeff Immelt, CEO of General Electric; and Joan Bavaria, Founding President and CEO of Trillium Asset Management.

Ms. Krumsiek received the award on November 26th at a ceremony held at Columbia's Feldberg Space in Warren Hall. After an introduction by Professor David Beim, Ms. Krumsiek addressed MBA students, faculty, alumni and staff. Her remarks focused on the role of financial institutions in building a sustainable economy.

"I am deeply honored to receive the Botwinick Prize, which has, over the years, gone to many of the great pioneers and innovators of the sustainability world," said Krumsiek. "I hope it will spur all of us at Calvert—and throughout the financial services industry—towards a greater commitment to positive social change through engagement, advocacy and sustainable investment."

Under Ms. Krumsiek's leadership, Calvert has received awards and recognition for investment performance, marketing and website excellence and accolades for environmental stewardship. Additionally, women represent 33% of the firm's senior management, a rarity in the investment business and a point of personal pride for Ms. Krumsiek.

Barbara J. Krumsiek is Chair, President and CEO of Calvert Investments, Inc. Her career in the investment business spans over three decades. During her tenure at Calvert, Ms. Krumsiek has established Calvert as a globally recognized leader in the field of sustainable and responsible investing. She just concluded a two-year term as Co-Chair of the United Nations Environment Programme - Finance Initiative. Ms. Krumsiek currently serves on several private and nonprofit boards. She was chosen as one of the "100 Most Powerful Women in Washington" by Washingtonian Magazine in 2011 and 2009. She graduated from Douglass College, Rutgers University where she received a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She received a master's degree in mathematics from the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University.
